Lee Brotherton (Remix Factory) - Dreams of an Absolution

As background music goes, its not bad, but its not exactly impressive either. I wouldn't be able to listen to this purely by itself unless I had a real reason to ( such as now ), as it just feels extraordinarily bland and boring. I guess its good for what it is however, since most BGM from games I've played aren't usually outstanding.

Rating it as that, I give it 7/10

As an individual song, its a lot worse. The melody is extraordinarily cheesy and actually have difficulty trying to focus on not removing my attention from the song whatsoever. Vocalist just ultimately makes me imagine someone who looks far too camp on a cloud singing in Elvis Presley gear, while trying to dance to something like DDR. I can't see how this fits in with Sonic at all, it doesn't have enough ( sue me Rhia! ) oomph. In short, boring, annoying, and distinctively repelling.

I give it 3/10 as this.

SONG BE DREAMS OF AN ABSOLUTION

And... I don't like it. At all. The instrumentation is nothing interesting. At first, it only strikes me as "noise", although eventually it gets some sort of melody going. The vocals aren't anything special either, and the way they're altered make them sound really lame. So I don't like it. And it goes on for large periods of time without much change. That bothers me when I already don't like how it sounds.

Slightly late, but now for something completely different. From Phantasy Star Universe. Does not contain lyrics.

From Tonfa. Fumie Kumatani composes nice music, for nice games. PSU's background music isn't too exciting though. This was mildly enjoyable. 7/10

Currently, the song that I am currently in the process of reviewing is currently Ukishima. Currently. I'm sorry.

I don't know. It was okay, I guess, but just really boring. I found it a little difficult to keep my attention focused on the song because of that.

I think I could probably only enjoy this song if I was high. Otherwise, it suffers many of the same issues I had with Walrus's song. Hard to focus on, due to being boring. It did at least have some more complexity.

4/10

There's really not much I can truly say about this, aside from the fact that I am deeply disturbed that I'm agreeing with the majority here: This is rather boring. I mean, its nice background music for Phantasy Star Universe, but as a lone track, or for anything other than PSU even, it just doesn't quite cut the cake. While there is some insturmentational variation and complexity, like Asaph has said before me, its not enough to grasp my attention and keep hold of it.

That being said, this is probably my shortest review. It's most likely it WILL remain my shortest review. Tonfa shoots at a tough spot to hit, and misses by a milestone.

Score: 4/10

Edit: Truthfully, I really hated it. Even though I can trace my musical roots to video game music, I find this executed poorly. Good game, Tonfa, good game.

I have kind of a mixed feeling...

On one hand, it has a kind of heroic sound to it, almost as if it were to belong in a mini-epic. On the other, it's a little slow for me, and without lyrics it is kind of hard to keep your attention on it. Not that there should be lyrical work in any game or anything.
Filler.
Filler.
Filler.
I'm just torn. I guess I like it, but it's not something I'd want to hear all the time or anything.

4/10

I'm sorry Tonfa :(

From Sturm. Whatever it was, it was enjoyable. Unlike candy that tastes like burnt cats. And burnt cats taste really bad. 8/10

I'm a sucker for clearly audible bass. I just love it. So thats a plus. I like the Piano melody, its very smooth, and swings at the same time. The vocals are slightly off putting, but aside from that, its a very enjoyable "chillout" song. Nice lyrics too. Wouldn't have expected this from a Post-Hardcore band.

( I'm also bloody surprised you didn't do Anathema )

9/10

Okay, I said it sucks, but it's really good. And that's it.

7/10

(And I think Anathema would have been too obvious)

This could be good. However the way the piano is used here and the lyrics just clash with the rest and leaves me with a somewhat unsettling experience.

5/10.

EDIT: Actually it's just more the piano. Same effect, regardless.

As Enzd said, that would be stupid. About half the people involved in this thing listen to Anathema, anyways. I'd rather get in music most of you haven't heard.

But that reminds me; players of Burnout 3 should recognize this band, but not this style.
