Someone dug a hole and planted the item there. End of story. No really, that's it. From what I could gather, which is hardly anything at all.

for the ultimate weapon to be planted there is kinda hard to believe.

I go with some one dropping it looking at all those bath scenes.

I chuckle at the fanelia because you just find it lying on the ground, and it's supposed to be this ultimate weapon.

We mostly don't know what the thing is.

It's a useless ultimate weapon, in Riviera anyway.

It looks like a sword, yet they way Ein says "Activating Fanelia" it sounds like a Gun Sword...damn FFVIII, references

but think of its potential in a different game...

I've always found it strange that something found lying on the ground - well not exactly - is stronger than Longinus, the apparant lance all Diviners are modelled after. Who knows, maybe the Longinus was modelled after the Fanelia? >.<

No..

The way I see it, Fanelia used to be a weapon from an ancient civilization. Possibly from thousands or maybe even millions of years ago. Whoever made it realized that it was far too powerful for it to have been weilded by just ANYONE, so they sealed it within Riviera's earth. I'm also going to assume that the main reason it was burried was because the Accursed were around and Ein sealing all of them triggered something with that seal and it wore off. Also, I don't think it was just lying on the ground. Ein had to dig five times in the same spot to find it, and the terrain's elevation could've been different back when it was burried for all we know.

I got it! I have a plausible explanation, and it's pretty simple.
Fanelia can only be used once, right? It's buried, right?
The answer: it's buried to grow a Fanelia tree, so we can get more Fanelias!

(runs away pretty quickly so i can't be shooted)

It originally had more uses. It must've been used quite a few times before it got burried. Also, weapons tend to lose perfection with age. It's like a gun from the 1700s being used in our generation.

Oh, and... *pulls out my Diviner and throws it at Mighty Griffin and it comes back to my hands.

I really can't see a story behind Fanelia; the only thing I see it as is a weapon that can make getting an S rank on Seth-Rah a LOT easier...

I wished Fanelia and Longinus never existed! They are just filling space in my inventory!
I never use them and i also never use weapons that the Accursed drop (i just throw them out).
It's more funny to play this way ... and still, i can get S ranks!

PS: It's Griffon not Griffin ... and your Diviner didn't hit me :P .

Well, the weapons the Accursed drop I only use in pratice to see how the attack looks or to finish the pratice a little faster. But yeah, they don't serve much purpose for me. Fanelia...I'd be lying if I said I've never used it more than once on separate files before =P

Kind of off-topic, but... just so you know, Rune_Ocarina, you can end Practice battles once you're done by going into the menu and selecting "End Practice". It'll just end the battle right away and you can get your tasty skill ups sooner.

Yeah, I know, I just like to kill kill kill. Besides, I only used that to get all of the voices saved onto my extras =P
